2014: A roof above your head

Construction of shelter for needy families in Kerala

In India, hundreds of thousands of people live in makeshift houses and huts made of straw, mud, plastic and tin. And many don’t have this too. LIGHT in LIFE helps build simple and stable homes that can withstand the extreme weather conditions in India.

In 2014, LIGHT in LIFE built 20 shelters for the homeless people in Kerala.
Share of LIGHT in LIFE for 20 houses is CHF 29’424.

In the history of LIGHT in LIFE, a new era started on 7th December 2013, when the project coordinator Mr Mathew Thekkottil launched the first phase of the project “A roof above your head” by handing over a cheque to the Bishop of Idukki Diocese Mar Anikuzhikkattil at a public function organised for that purpose. Subsequently, the Bishop handed over cheques to 10 needy families who were earlier selected after thorough scrutiny.

One-fourth of the total cost of the house is given by LIGHT in LIFE. The rest of the cost was taken care of by the local partners and organisations, patrons and well-wishers. One portion of the cost is the contribution by the beneficiary himself (financial/ material/ manual labour).
